We will always ensure you get the best possible waves that are available In Newquay Because we are based between 2 beaches, we have the choice to use either. This is invaluable when the swell is small, as we use the more exposed Fistral, or when the swell is huge, and Fistral Beach is dangerous and closed, we use the much more sheltered Towan Beach. You are therefore guaranteed to have the best possible lesson, whatever the conditions.
At high tide the beach becomes a small crescent of sand, but at low tide the beach opens up and connects with each of the other four beaches to the north, forming a huge strip onto which the surf breaks.
Fistral Beach is the major and most well known surfing beach in the United Kingdom, The beach is particularly straight and is about 2500 feet (750 metres) in length. It is mainly sandy and faces North-West towards the Atlantic Ocean. It is also backed by steep dunes. It is popular with surfers for its high exposure to swells, ensuring consistent waves. Waves at Fistral can, at times, be of very high quality, however due to its exposed position it has many hazards, including currents, rips and strong waves, so is not always suitable for complete beginners. We will only use Fistral beach when the conditions at Towan are such that we are unable to surf there, such as high tide, small swell etc. Which ever beach we use, we still meet at the Surf School base on Fore Street, which overlooks Towan beach, and then go to the chosen beach for that session
